MĂRȚIŞOR
Mărțișor is a beloved Romanian spring tradition celebrated every 1 March to welcome the new season. The name comes from Martie (March) and the custom centers on a red and white string often tied with a small charm, symbolizing the balance between winter and spring, and wishes for health, good luck and renewal.
Traditionally, people give Mărțișoare to loved ones and wear them pinned to clothing throughout March, believing this brings strength, prosperity, and protection for the year ahead. At the end of the month, the string may be tied to a blossoming tree for good luck.
It’s a beautiful way to celebrate nature’s rebirth, share appreciation, and look forward to warmer days.
