PRÂSLEA

Prâslea cel voinic is a brave young hero from a classic Romanian fairy tale collected by Petre Ispirescu. In the story, a king’s magical tree bears golden apples each year, but they are always stolen before he can taste them. While his older brothers fail, Prâslea stays awake all night and wounds the thief, following the trail into a hidden realm where three princesses are held by ogres (zmei). He battles the monsters, rescues the sisters, and faces jealousy from his brothers before proving his courage and winning his true love’s hand.

This tale celebrates bravery, loyalty, and cleverness, and remains one of Romania’s best-loved folk stories.
